Larnaca's lively town beach, best known for the aircraft that roar low overhead on final approach to the airport — plane spotters line up here for a reason. The sand is grey-gold and the water shallow and calm, backed by a busy strip of bars and tavernas. Free to visit, though sunbeds are paid and summer weekends get crowded.
Type: Beach · Area: Larnaca, Larnaca & the Plains · Best time: May-Oct · afternoon · Entry: Free
Mackenzie is Larnaca's city beach with a twist: it sits directly under the airport approach, so airliners pass low overhead on landing days — one of the Mediterranean's best-known plane-spotting locations. Behind the Blue Flag sand runs a promenade of cafés, fish tavernas and beach bars, the liveliest stretch of the city's coast.
Five minutes' drive south of the Finikoudes seafront, or a flat half-hour walk along the coast; city buses serve the strip.
Free and paid lots behind the promenade — full by late morning on summer weekends, so come early or walk from town.
Summer for the full organised-beach scene; check wind direction for the lowest fly-overs. The strip stays lively into the evening.
