How we choose.
Cyprus Hot Spots is an independent, locally-run guide to the best of the island — 50 genuinely free attractions and 60+ hand-checked tavernas, restaurants, bars, beach clubs, cafés, boat trips and car rentals. Here is exactly how those picks are made, and why you can trust them.
The four rules behind every list.
The same principles apply to a €4 souvlaki stand and a €120 tasting menu.
Our rankings are not for sale
There is no way to pay for a better position on Cyprus Hot Spots — we don’t sell placement, and we take no commission on anything. Owners can claim and update their own profile for free, but a claimed venue is never shown above a higher-rated one in our “best of” lists. The order you read is earned, driven only by public ratings and review volume.
Real ratings, real review counts
Every venue is ranked by its public rating and the volume of reviews behind it — a 4.8 from 2,000 reviews outranks a 5.0 from nine. We weight review volume so a handful of glowing reviews can't leapfrog a long-proven local favourite.
Free means free
Anything we list under Free Spots is genuinely free to visit — no gate, no ticket, no "free but you must buy a drink". If a beach charges for parking or sunbeds, we say so on the spot's page rather than hiding it.
Local, not lifted
Listings are cross-checked against on-the-ground knowledge of each town. Tourist traps with inflated ratings get filtered out; genuine neighbourhood places that visitors rarely find get surfaced.
From candidate to ranked pick.
Shortlist
We start from every credible candidate in a town or category — pulling ratings, review counts, price level and location for each.
Rank
Candidates are ordered by rating, then by review volume, so the most consistently loved places rise to the top of each list.
Verify
Each entry is sanity-checked: is it still open, is the rating stable, is it actually what it claims to be? Anything dubious is dropped.
Refresh
Lists are reviewed regularly. As ratings move, places close or new spots open, the rankings update — so what you read reflects now, not last year.
Why this exists.
Most "best of Cyprus" lists are either thin aggregator pages or pay-to-play directories. We built Cyprus Hot Spots because the island deserves better: one place, run by people who actually live here, that tells tourists, locals and expats where to go — the free beaches and gorges worth the drive, and the venues that locals book themselves. Businesses can claim their profile and run offers, which keeps the data fresh, but the editorial ranking stays independent of any commercial relationship.
How we choose — FAQ
Do businesses pay to be listed or ranked higher?
No. Listing on Cyprus Hot Spots is free, and there is no way to pay for a higher position — our “best of” lists are ordered purely by public ratings and review volume. Owners can claim their profile to keep photos, hours, menu and contact details accurate, but claiming never moves a venue up the rankings.
Where do the ratings come from?
From Google Maps. Every venue ’s rating and review count is read from its own Google Maps listing — we last checked them all in September 2026 — and the same check confirms the business exists, is open, and that its Directions pin lands on the right door. We use rating and review volume together, so volume matters, not just the headline score. Scores move, so confirm the current one before you go.
How often is the site updated?
Rankings and listings are reviewed on a rolling basis and the page-level "Updated" date reflects the most recent review. Free-spot details like best season and access are kept current as conditions change.
How can I suggest a place or report a mistake?
Owners can claim their business to keep details accurate, and anyone can reach us via the Instagram linked in the footer to flag a closure, a wrong detail or a great spot we've missed.
