A cool two-hour forest loop tracing the Kryos river through pine and plane trees to a 13-metre waterfall — the island’s best escape from the August heat.
Type: Hike · Area: Platres, Troodos Mountains · Best time: Spring · full flow · Entry: Free
The Caledonia Trail follows the Kryos Potamos stream down through pine and plane forest to a 13 m waterfall, the tallest easily-reached cascade in the Troodos and one of the cooler, greener walks on the island.
From Platres; start near the Psilo Dendro trout restaurant (bottom) or the Caledonia picnic site by the President's summer cottage (top).
Park at Psilo Dendro or the Caledonia picnic site.
Spring (March–May), when snowmelt gives the falls full flow and the forest is at its lushest.
